Kahala

Kahala is a neighborhood in Honolulu located alongside Kaimuki and Waialae, featuring many beachfront properties. While the region itself is smaller than other residential areas, it has some of the most expensive real estate in the city of Honolulu and in the state of Hawaii.

Kahala is home to the Kahala Resort and Hotel (formerly the Kahala Mandarin Oriental and the Kahala Hilton), along with many homes ranging from $2 million to $3 million. Along the borders are the Kahala Mall and the Diamond Head Crater.

Diamond Head & The Gold Coast

In October of 2011, Condé Nast Traveler honored resorts throughout the Gold Coast in their Hawaii Top 20.

Coming in at #4 in the statewide list is the Four Seasons Hualalai, a resort that staged an incredible comeback following the ravages of the March 2011 tsunami. The Fairmont Orchid also managed to make the top 10.

Fun Fact: Diamond Head is the name of the volcanic "tuff cone" on the island of Oahu; it was given its English name by 19th century British sailors who mistakenly thought calcite crystals embedded in the rock were diamonds.

The neighborhood tends to be a mix of many long-time residents and newer homeowners including celebrities and business moguls, many of whom maintain vacation homes in this exclusive area.

Kahala offers relatively flat terrain, and is a short drive (10 to 15 minutes) from Waikiki and downtown. Secluded yet publicly accessible beaches offer visitors the chance to enjoy a bit of paradise without the crowds.
