Kailua Beach (Two Seas)

Kailua BeachThe community-oriented beach scene is widely embraced in Kailua. The area has many natural wonders including the Mokulua Islands, Kawainui Marshland and Mount Olomana and is also home to a variety of sacred ancient Hawaiian sites.

The eclectic population of more than 50,000 are from all walks of life and cultures with approximately 1,500 small businesses serving the community, and its residents enjoy a lifestyle complete with parks, playgrounds and peace of mind.

Kailua Beach tends to be on the arid side like Hawaii Kai, but is typically a little more laid back and low key than "Town Side". Along with Lanikai Beach are known as two of the world's best beaches. If you like pristine beaches with gorgeous views, Kailua is it. The population is roughly around 36,000 and it is just 12 miles northeast of Honolulu proper.

I always tell people if I didn't live in Hawaii Kai, Kailua would be my second choice. Apparently President Obama feels the same way since he chose this town as his 2010 Hawaii vacation destination.

The neighborhoods and community are close knit.  I love the beach communities of Beachside, Lanikai and Ku'ulei all within walking distance to really great beaches and a laid back beachy lifestyle.  You also have access to my fave Kalapawai Market, known for carrying all the essentials needed for a full day at the beach -- lattes, custom sandwiches, salads, beer, soda and a decent wine selection. Each neighborhood has its own unique personality; the Enchanted Lake provides some areas well-suited for kayaking.

Shopping options are similar to those found in Hawaii Kai, including several major grocery stores including my favorite, Whole Foods. It also has a Macy's, great surf shops, boutiques and a wide variety of restaurants. Boots and Kimo is a breakfast favorite; other recommended restaurants include Formaggio and Honey's, the Original Buzz's Steakhouse just across from Kailua Beach.
